  • Meeting-point for art and culture

Since its founding days the Austrian Hospice has regarded itself as Austria’s culture bearer in the Orient. Interested guests and local people are offered an insight in to Austrian art and culture in the form of concerts, exhibitions and talks(information on planned and current events can be fund under "News").

"Fantastic Classicism" awaits you in the reception salon in the first floor of the house. The Austrian masters F. Eichele and J. Kaltenbach created the magnificent decoration of the side walls. The ceiling is decorated by four Biblical scenes by an unknown travelling artist. Concerts and talks for up to 100 persons can be held here in the salon.

Modern art is presented in the 2nd floor of the house. Professor Herwig Zens of the Vienna Academy of Fine Arts created here the Stations of the Cross in 14 pictures. Professor Zens produced this cycle in the years 1992 and 1993 and drew particular inspiration from the proximity to the location of the event. The works have been made available to the Austrian Hospice by the artist on continuous loan.

In our time the dialogue between cultures and religions, the intensified act of becoming acquainted with others is becoming increasingly important. In accordance with this spirit we are also inviting more and more Israeli, Jewish and Palestinian, Muslim and Christian artists to exhibit in the Austrian Hospice. We want to be able to be regarded as a place of meeting. Our location is our mandate: on the Via Dolorosa on the way to the Church of the Holy Sepulchre, to the Western Wall of the Jewish Temple Mount, to the Muslim Haram esh-Sharif with its Dome of the Rock and the Al-Aqsa Mosque the dialogue of the Abrahamitic religions should be fostered and promoted.
