The house chapel is the spiritual focal point of the Austrian Hospice. Many well-known artists have contributed to its construction.
The main altar was completed in red marble in Vienna according to a design by the architect Heinrich von Ferstel. The altar picture is by Schubert’s friend Leopold Kupelwieser of Vienna and depicts the patron saints of the Hospice, the Holy Family. The mosaic decoration of the apse was brought to Jerusalem in 1908 with a Styrian caravan. It is some 24 square metres and consists of two parts. One part fills the upper section of the apse, the other the arch over and to both sides of the apse. In the middle of the arch is the five-cross emblem of Jerusalem.
The two side altars of Salzburg marble were built in 1909. The right-hand one depicts the theme of the Fourth Station of the Cross, "Jesus meets his Mother", and was dedicated to the Hospice by the brothers and sisters of the German Order. The left-hand altar depicts "Our Dear Lady of the German House in Jerusalem" and was donated by Grandmaster of the German Order Archduke Eugen.
